PHILADELPHIA - Before the start of preseason training, head coach Doug Hess rounded out his coaching staff for the 2014 season with the addition of Greig Edwards, a former standout at Philadelphia University and a coach with experience in the city's collegiate scene. Edwards, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, will join the staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming season.
"We are delighted to add Greig to our staff and know he will fit in well here in University City," Hess said while introducing Edwards. "He is a high character guy and brings some good experiences with him, along with some international recruiting contacts. We look forward to working with him and continuing to advance the Drexel men's soccer program."
Edwards is not a stranger to the Philadelphia area, having starred for four seasons as a student-athlete at Philadelphia University from 2007-11. He remained there for three years after graduation as an assistant coach. Last season, he served as a volunteer assistant coach at Villanova.
In addition to his collegiate coaching responsibilities, Edwards has served as a program coordinator for the Starfinder Foundation, which promotes youth leadership, a love of learning, the benefits of teamwork and the rewards of commitment and responsibility using soccer to help inspire young people. He also is a developmental coach for the Eastern Pennsylvania Olympic program for the U-14 boys age group, a position he has held since 2012.
Edwards currently holds a USSC C License and is a 2011 graduate of Philadelphia University with a degree in enviornmental sustainability.
