PHILADELPHIA - Head Coach Denise Dillon has announced the promotion of Michelle Baker to Assistant Women's Basketball Coach after two years as the program's Operations Assistant. Baker, who is nearing the completion of her master's degree in sport management at Drexel, will assume the role effective immediately.
"We are incredibly excited to promote Michelle to an assistant coach," Dillon said. "Michelle offers great energy and enthusiasm in all she does. We are confident she will continue to help us achieve a high level of success as a program."
Baker has spent the last two seasons with the Dragons in an Operations Assistant role, responsible for the day-to-day organization of the program including travel and meal coordination and practice planning. She also managed the staff office and coordinated the program's outreached to the community through the team's social media outlets.
Her new responsibilities will include player development as well as recruiting, with a focus on the New York/New Jersey region.
"I am incredibly excited to be remaining with the Dragons as an assistant coach," Baker remarked. "The experience working as part of the women's basketball staff over the past two years has been very rewarding, and I am looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities that this position will bring. I'm looking forward to helping the Dragons continue the great success we have had in recent years and build towards even greater heights."
A 2012 graduate of Saint Joseph's University where she finished her playing career as the Hawks' all-time leader in games played (127) and among the leaders in points scored (1,184), Baker will be taking over for Melissa Dunne, who recently left the Dragons after 11 seasons to join the coaching staff at George Washington University.
