Philadelphia, Pa. - The Drexel men's basketball team held its annual postseason banquet on Wednesday night at World Café Live. Chris Fouch and Frantz Massenat were named co-Most Valuable Players for the Dragons.
Fouch, a senior, finished his career with 1,744 points, the fifth-highest total in school history. The sixth-year senior, who missed two seasons due to injuries, also finished fourth in school history with 275 three-pointers and is the eighth-best free throw shooter ever at Drexel, shooting better than 78 percent from the line.
Massenat, a senior, finished in sixth place, right behind Fouch with 1,646 career points. He handed out 548 assists in his career, third all-time at the school behind only Michael Anderson and Todd Lehmann. Massenat led the CAA in both assists and assist-to-turnover ratio. To no one's surprise, Massenat was the recipient of the team's Assist Award.
Sophomore Tavon Allen won the Dragon "D" Award, which goes to the team's top defensive player. Allen, a 6-foot-7 guard, was one of the reasons the Dragons held opponents to under 31 percent shooting from long range. He also picked up 19 steals and had eight blocks. Senior Dartaye Ruffin was the recipient of the "Sweep" Award, which goes to the team's top rebounder. Ruffin grabbed 7.7 rebounds per game in his final year. In his four year career, Ruffin, who hails from Stoughton, Mass., finished with 829 rebounds. That is the seventh-best rebounding total ever at the school.
Freshman Rodney Williams was given the Samuel D. Cozen Award which is awarded to the most improved player. Williams went from playing limited minutes early in the season to becoming Drexel's top post presence on the offensive end. He was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team and averaged 5.4 points and five rebounds per game. The Donald Shank Spirit & Dedication Award was given to senior Jake Lerner. It was the second time Lerner picked up the award. Senior Steve Manojlovic earned the team's academic award. The environmental science major from Toronto has a 3.62 grade-point average.
The Dragons finished the season with a 16-14 overall record and an 8-8 mark in CAA play.
