Drexel Crew Finish Strong Against Villanova and La Salle

PHILADELPHIA – Drexel Crew had another successful outing on the Schuylkill River as the Dragons earned first place in seven of eight events against Villanova and La Salle. The women's team won four out of five races, while the men posted three out of three wins.

On the men's side, the freshmen four 'A' event boat tabbed first place with a time of 7:24.59 over the Villanova Wildcats. Tyler Lee coxed the Lebow College of Business boat in lane two with stroke Tom Foulds, Jim Howley, Nick John Ruskey, and bow Nick Hitti. The freshmen four 'B' boat managed to grab second place in lane one with a time of 7:41.35. The freshmen four 'B' was on the water in the Oxholm boat led by coxswain Sami Iula, stroke Brian Tindall, Aengus Walker, Harry Betz, and Peter Raux.

Next up for the men, the second varsity eight 'B' and 'A' boats worked their way to a first and second place finish, respectively. The varsity eight 'B' boat finished first with a time of 6:49.5. The Peggy Geeenawalt boat featured coxswain Brett Barry, stroke, Adam Wisniowski, Dan Capone, Nick Herceg, Joe Masgai, Will Cartwright, Louis Madi, Keegan Shannon, and bow Jim Purtill. The second varsity eight 'A' stole second with a time of 6:55.3. Coxswain Victoria Kenion guided the Vince Vidas boat with stroke Grig Papadourakis, Casimir Czworkowski, Ryan McSpedon, Cameron Staines, John Deibler, Brian Kissam, Mahmoud Shurbaji and bow Lief Malm.

Finally for the men, the varsity eight 'B' and 'A' shells each took first and second, respectively. The varsity eight 'B' with an impressive 6:34.71, and raced from lane four in the Antionette Pennoni boat. Coxswain Chris Henderson led, stroke Dean Hill, Xavier Stanish, Dan Dollin, Vanja Busic, Marko Durica, Ryan Mallgrave, Mike DiLucca and bow Brian McCabe. The varsity eight 'A' boat which featured coxswain Marc Smith, stroke Mikulas Sum, Ivo Krakic, Sebastian Ryan, Nick Capaldi, Ian Leutzow, Dave Hanrahan, Dan Polombo and bow John Pieper, took second place in lane two with a time of 6:50.42.

The varsity eight kicked off action for the women. The Maria Papadakis boat took first place in lane one with a time of 7:13.2. The team featured coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Victoria King, Elizabeth Daugherty, Amanda O'Malley, Marina Forster, Jayme Batcher, Bridget Pfeifer, Amanda Kleuser and bow Elise Levito.

The women's freshmen eight took to the water in lane three and managed to defeat Villanova with a time of 7:52.9. The John Daskalakis boat held coxswain Abby Colasacco, stroke Kendall Wenzke, Eugenia Santeliz, Gabby Salcedo, Erin Arnold, Emily Doris, Molly Dudrear, Hannah Devlin and bow Jenna O' Toole.

Up next, the women's second varsity eight grabbed first place in lane 3, clocking in at 7:40.72. Catherine Hamilton, coxswain, guided the Marlene Buckley boat along with stroke Olivia Babiec, Colleen Delaney, Emily Gartland, Sam Cowan, Taylor Brady, Alyssa Leahy, Stephanie Thomas and bow Julie McGlynn.

The women's varsity four 'A' boat took first place in lane one, crossing the finish line at 8:27.84. Sarah Messenger coxswained the Sandra Lee Sheller boat with stroke Barbara McKenna, Liz Campanella,Sierra Baca, and bow Elizabeth Wagner.

The women's varsity four 'B' boat sat in lane one and saw the teams only third place finish of the day. Coxswain Nupur Parikh led stroke, Emma Cardwell,Mercedes Barr, Chelsea Cohen, and bow Emma Compton to a finishing time of 10:41.64.

The Crew teams will return to the Schuylkill River on March 22 where they will take on Lehigh, Temple & Delaware.
