PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's soccer team saw its season draw to a close as the Dragons dropped a 3-0 decision to UNCW on a cold, blustery afternoon at Vidas Field. The Dragons managed just one shot on goal for the afternoon, while Seahawks midfielder Jamie Dell scored twice, giving himself 10 goals on the season.
Drexel finishes its season 5-10-3, 1-6-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play.
The Dragons opened the afternoon by honoring eight members of the senior class who played their final contest in the blue and gold on Saturday. All eight were in the starting lineup. John Grosh had three shots and the team's lone shot on goal on the afternoon. Michele Pataia took a shot and also cleared a ball off the goalline for a team save in the second half.
Dell scored in the 25th minute, taking a pass chipped in over the defense by Colin Bonner and scoring on a low shot to the near post from 12 yards out. Bonner also assisted on Dell's second goal, a breakaway in the 50th minute. Bonner flicked a header from midfield up to a streaking Dell, who dribbled upfield and deked Afflerbach to tap the score home. Jack Ward added another insurance goal for the Seahawks in the 74th minute off a cross from Daniel Escobar.
