WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Drexel women's tennis continued its strong start to the fall season on Wednesday, beating Monmouth, 7-0. The Dragons have now beat the Mountain Hawks in each of the last 10 seasons.
In singles play, the Dragons won all but one set in six matches on the afternoon. The freshmen again shined for head coach Mehdi Rhazali, as Ryshena Providence and Kendra Bunch swept their matches in two sets and Jennifer White won hers in three.
Sophomores Lea Winkler and Fiorella Coria got in on the action as well, each beating their opponents, 6-0, 6-0. Senior Aysenil Orhon also topped her opponent by a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Drexel's success continued into the doubles matches, too. The duo of Nicole Pivonka and Clary Rodriguez Cruz, fresh of a Flight A doubles title at the Villanova Invitational last weekend, won 8-1. The Blue and Gold also recorded an 8-0 victory from the team of Erin Bowsher and Lea Winkler, as well as an 8-3 win from the pair of Amanda Tilles and Jennifer White.
The Dragons will return to the court on Thursday, Oct. 16 at the ITA Northeast Regionals in West Haven, Conn.
