PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's soccer team extended its winning streak to five games with victories over Rutgers and William & Mary last week, thanks in large part to the play of senior midfielder Ken Tribbett. Tribbett scored goals in both games, including the game-winner over the Tribe in the Dragons' Colonial Athletic Association opener. On Monday, he earned recognition for his week with Player of the Week nods from the CAA and the Philadelphia Soccer Six, as well as a spot on the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week.
Tribbett, who had three goals all of last season, now has three in 2013 after netting two this week. His first came in the 69th minute against Rutgers when he finished a play started by freshman Adam Arana to put Drexel up by its final margin of 2-0. Arana fired a low shot in on the Scarlet Knights' goalkeeper David Greczek, who slowed the ball but let it go between his legs. With defenders charging in to knock the ball out of harm's way, Tribbett outraced them and poked it over the goal line for the score.
On Saturday, Tribbett put the Dragons ahead to stay with a bullet in the 30th minute. His shot rocketed into the box from 25 yards out, ricocheting off the head of a William & Mary defender and over the outstretched reach of goalkeeper Mac Phillips. The goal was Tribbett's first game-winner of the season, and helped Drexel knock off a William & Mary team that came into Vidas Field on a three-game winning streak with two of the three wins against teams ranked No. 1 in the nation at the time.
Tribbett became the second-straight Dragon to earn Soccer Six Player of the Week recognition, with Mark Donohue taking the honor last week. He also is the second member of the team to be recognized by the CAA, a week after freshman goalkeeper Tyler Afflerbach was named the league's Rookie of the Week. Tribbett's national honor is the first such distinction for a Drexel player this season.
