PHILADELPHIA - Taylor Wootton, who became the 21st player in Drexel women's basketball history to reach 1,000 points when she scored a game-high 16 in the Dragons' WNIT championship game victory last April, will be remaining in University City as a member of Denise Dillon's coaching staff for the 2013-14 season. Wootton will serve as the Dragons' Coordinator of Women's Basketball Operations.
"We are excited to have Taylor join our staff," Dillon commented. "As a player, she was always an extension of the coaching staff on the court, with her knowledge of the game and strong leadership qualities. Her transition from player to colleague will bring a strong addition to our staff."
Wootton set a school record with her start in the WNIT championship game against Utah, appearing in her school-record 131st game. She started all 38 games for the Dragons in 2012-13, scoring 12.0 points per game and earning Third Team All-CAA recognition. She was also a member of the CAA Tournament and WNIT All-Tournament Teams.
Wootton graduated from Drexel with a degree in sport management.
"I feel fortunate that my coach, Coach Dillon, gave me the opportunity to stay here at Drexel," Wootton remarked. "I could not think of a better place to start my coaching career. I really look forward to working with the staff and transitioning from a student-athlete to a coach."
Wootton scored in double figures in her last 10 career games, a personal-best streak. She set a career high with 26 points in the Dragons' 85-73 win at Northeastern, eclipsing the 20-point mark for the third straight game. In all, Wootton reached 20 points seven times in 2012-13, including 21 points in the CAA championship game against Delaware and 20 in the WNIT second round win over Harvard.
She led the team with a .490 shooting percentage on the season, adding a .396 percentage (19-for-48) from three-point range and an .838 mark from the charity stripe.
