Women's Soccer Defeats Marist in Double Overtime

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's soccer team defeated Marist, 2-1, in two overtimes on Monday night in their home opener at Vidas Field. Junior Alyssa Findlay scored the game-winning goal off a corner kick from Civanni Moss with 1:35 remaining in the second overtime.

The Dragons struck early in the victory as Jess Sarkisian scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Lauren Stollar just under three minutes into the first half. Drexel maintained its 1-0 lead going into halftime despite Marist's five shots in the period.

After halftime Gabby Dixon tried to increase the Dragons' lead in the 63rd minute, but the shot found the crossbar. Having dodged that bullet the Red Foxes came down the field with another chance to tie it up. Marist's Samantha Panzner scored off the assist from Amanda Epstein to even things up at 1-1 with just under 12 minutes remaining. The Dragons were unable to retaliate, sending the game to its first overtime.

Drexel got to work early yet again in the extra period as Megan Hammaker took a shot less than a minute in that hit the post. Less than 30 seconds later Abbey Romano put up a shot that was saved by Marist's goalie, Andrea Wicks. Hammaker took another shot with two minutes to go but missed high and Gabby Dixon attempted a goal off a corner kick with 33 seconds remaining that went wide. This sent the game into its second overtime, where Findlay and Moss combined for the game-winning goal.

Drexel goalie Eve Badana tallied five saves in the victory. The two teams combined for 30 shots and 13 corner kicks in the match.

The Dragons will return to action on Friday as they host the Villanova Wildcats at Vidas Field at 7:00 p.m.
