Philadelphia, Pa. - A trip to Colorado and matches against three Philadelphia schools highlight the Drexel women's soccer team's 2013 schedule. The Dragons, who were a program-best 13-3-3 record a year ago, open the season on August 23 at Rutgers.
The Dragons open their home schedule on Aug. 26 when Marist visits Vidas Field. Four days later, Drexel will host Villanova in a Friday night game under the lights in West Philadelphia. The Dragons make a quick trip to Baltimore to face UMBC before playing three straight matches in the City of Brotherly Love. Liberty and Longwood both make their first appearances at Vidas Field before the Dragons visit Penn on Sept. 13.
Head Coach Ray Goon and his squad will then fly out to Colorado Springs for a pair of non-league matches. The Dragons faces Colorado College on Sept. 20 and two days later will visit Air Force. Upon returning to Philadelphia, Drexel will host NCAA Tournament participant La Salle at Vidas to close the non-conference slate.
Drexel will play four home and four road matches in CAA play. The team opens CAA play at Towson before heading home for four straight league matches. William & Mary, James Madison, Northeastern and Hofstra will each be looking to avenge losses to the Dragons in 2012. The Dragons close the regular-season with three consecutive road matches. Drexel will go to Delaware and then end the season at UNCW and at CAA-newcomer College of Charleston. UNCW defeated the Dragons on penalty kicks in last year's CAA semifinals.
The CAA Championship begins on Nov. 3 as the third and fourth-seeded teams will host quarterfinal matches. The top two seeds will receive byes. The CAA championship game will be played on Nov. 10, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
