Wrestling Falls to Princeton, Defeats George Mason at Grapple at the Garden

New York, N.Y. – The Drexel wrestling team went 1-1 on the day at the second annual Grapple at the Garden on Sunday. The Dragons move to 2-7 overall, 0-1 EIWA after today's competition.
Freshman Tanner Shoap started off the Dragons' day with a tech fall at 125 against Princeton. David Pearce then dropped a close 4-3 decision at 133 and Matthew Cimato was pinned at 141 to give the Tigers a 9-5 lead. Noel Blanco took a 7-4 decision at 149 and Austin Sommer followed with a win at 157 to put Drexel in the lead again, 11-9. Princeton retaliated, winning three matches in a row to go ahead again 18-11. Brandon Palik won a 3-1 decision at 197, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit as Princeton walked away with a 21-14 victory.
In the second match of the day, Drexel jumped out to an early lead over George Mason with a win-by-fall from Shoap at 1:36 in the 125 match and a 6-1 decision from Pearce at 133. The Patriots got on the board for the first time in the dual as Sahid Kargbo defeated Franco Ferriana at 141. The Dragons went on another run as both Blanco and Sommer picked up their second wins of the day and Jason Fugiel picked up a victory with a 2-0 decision at 165 to give Drexel a 19-3 lead. Mason shortened the Dragons' lead to 19-9 with wins at 174 and 184, but Palik earned a 3-2 victory at 197 ensure a Drexel victory.
Next up, the squad will travel to Bloomington, Ind. to compete in the Indiana Duals on December 7 and 8. The Dragons will face West Virginia, Indiana, and Northern Colorado on Saturday with matches starting at 10:00, 12:00, and 2:00 respectively. On Sunday, Drexel will take on SIUE at 11:00 and then round out competition with a dual against VMI starting at 1:00.
