PHILADELPHIA – Despite controlling the ball for most of the game, the Drexel women's soccer team fell to William & Mary, 2-0, on Thursday night at Vidas Field. The Dragons are now 4-7-1, 0-2 CAA while the Tribe improves to 5-1-4, 2-0 on the season.
William & Mary struck first with a goal in the 11th minute. The Tribe's Anna Madden put the ball past junior keeper Eve Badana after a feed from Audrey Barry.
The Dragons had a number of chances to get on the board in the first half. With under 23 minutes to go, Megan Hammaker set up Stevenson for a strong opportunity, but the shot was saved by William & Mary's keeper Caroline Casey. A few minutes later Melissa Chapman also had a chance, but the shot went just high allowing the Tribe to take their 1-0 lead into halftime.
Just two minutes after play resumed in the second half, Andi Stampone got a shot off that found the post. Then with 18 minutes to play in regulation William & Mary's Emory Camper stole the ball and scored to give the Tribe a two-goal lead.
The Dragons were unable to retaliate despite outshooting the Tribe 19-10 throughout the game. Drexel also had 11 corner kick opportunities in the competition, but were unable to put the ball in the net.
Badana recorded four saves in the losing effort while Casey took eight away from the Dragons.
Drexel returns to action on Sunday as they host James Madison starting at 12:00 p.m. at Vidas Field.
