Drexel Opens CAA Play With a Convincing Win at Georgia State

Atlanta, Ga. – Drexel shot 65 percent in the second half and Frantz Massenat scored a season-high 25 points as the Dragons opened the Colonial Athletic Association season with a convincing 77-60 win at Georgia State. The Dragons improved to 5-8 with the win.

The Dragons opened the second half strong and were aided by a 12-0 run as they increased the lead to 59-39. The Panthers (5-9) couldn't get any closer than 14 points the rest of the way as Drexel won its 17^th straight CAA regular-season game. It tied Richmond for the second longest streak in CAA history. George Mason holds the record with 18 wins. That streak was snapped in the DAC last season. Drexel made five of its seven three-pointers in the final 20 minutes. Damion Lee and Tavon Allen each had a pair of treys.

The Panthers were on fire in the early going, sinking their first four shots, including three from behind the arc. Georgia State led by as many as seven, but the Dragons settled in and tied it up at 15-15 when Tavon Allen drained a three-pointer. Later in the half, Drexel went on an 8-0 run, keyed by a Masssenat three-point play and a Lee three-pointer. The Dragons went to the break ahead by a 37-33 score.

Lee finished with an efficient 15 points in the game. The sophomore was 5-for-9 from deep and had five three-pointers. Allen scored 13 points in just 13 minutes of play. He had three three-pointers. Senior Daryl McCoy continued to dominate the boards, snaring 14 caroms, 11 of which came in the first half. McCoy moved into 10th place on Drexel's career rebounding list with 728. Drexel took much better care of the ball, turning it over eight times.

Drexel returns to Philadelphia on Thursday morning and will begin preparation for the team's home conference-opener on Saturday. Towson will come to the Daskalakis Athletic Center for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
