Drexel Crew Concludes Racing at the 2012 IRA National Championships

Philadelphia – After receiving its first-ever team bid, Drexel University faced strong competition at the 2012 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship Regatta hosted on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The men's varsity eight finished 17th overall, the men's second varsity earned 14th place and the men's freshmen eight captured 15th place in the country, while the men's open four took sixth place in the petite finals.
The men's varsity eight, in the newly named Lois Krall boat, posted fifth place in the third level finals for 17th place overall. The Dragons clocked in a time of 5:48.851. Washington had the top overall finish in the Grand Finals followed by Brown and Harvard. The men's varsity eight consisted of coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Kurt Linton, Paul Wisniowski, Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Sebastian Ryan, Vanja Busic, Michael Faust and bow Will Masters.
The men's second varsity eight, in the Annette Pennoni boat, tied with Dartmouth for second place in the third level finals and recorded 14th place overall. Drexel and the Big Green stopped the clock at 5:57.927. Washington captured first place in the Grand Finals followed by Brown and Harvard respectively. The Drexel men's second varsity eight featured coxswain Marc Smith, stroke Timothy Drake, Patrick McGann, Martin Khait, Brian Timlin, John Pieper, Ryan Mallgrave, Kevin Rorabaugh, and bow Pete Eyrich.
The men's freshmen eight, in the Peggy Greenawalt boat, finished just before Gonzaga for fifth place in the third level finals and 15th place overall. The Dragons crossed the finish line at 6:02.225 followed by the Bulldogs at 6:02.469. Washington also finished first in the Grand Finals followed by California and Northeastern. The shell included coxswain Victoria Kenion, stroke Dean Hill, Brian McCabe, Hartman Byers, Jake Murphy, Christian Ladd, Casimir Czworkowski, Grigorios Papadourakis and bow Cameron Staines.
The men's open four, in the Tobey and Kim Oxholm boat, took sixth place in the petite finals with a time of 6:48.479. In the Grand Finals, Washington took first-place overall followed by Wisconsin and California. Drexel's open four consisted of coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Adam Cordi, James Byrne, Mahmoud Shurbaji and bow Matt Gehret.
