Women's Tennis Bumped By Top-Seeded VCU, 4-0

NORFOLK, Va. - The Drexel women's tennis team saw its season come to a close on Friday, as the eighth-seeded Dragons were knocked out by top-seeded VCU in the quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament played at Old Dominion University. Drexel dropped three singles matches and the first two doubles matches to conclude.
Doubles was contested first, with VCU winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. The Rams also held a 7-2 lead at No. 2 doubles, but once the point was clinched, play was suspended.
In singles play, senior Sonja Stosic - who had paired with Zeynep Mafa was part of an 8-1 loss at No. 1 doubles - fell in the final singles match of her collegiate career, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 position on Drexel's ladder. Emma Brook was bested at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0, while Marcela Rosales fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles to conclude the action.
Three singles matches were still on the courts as play was halted, including Mafa at No. 2, Alex Bell at No. 5 and Nicole Pivonka at No. 6. All three had seen the Rams win the first set and hold an early lead in the second before the match was clinched.
