Philadelphia - Drexel Head Men's Basketball Coach Bruiser Flint has been named a District Coach of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Flilnt was selected by his peers for the award. It is the fourth time in his career, and third time as a Dragon, that Flint has been honored by the NABC.
Flint led the Dragons to a school-record 29 wins in 2011-12. At one point, Drexel won 19 straight games, which also set a school record. The Dragons were snubbed by the NCAA selection committee, but were invited to the National Invitation Tournament for the sixth time, five of those under Flint's guidance. Drexe won two games in the NIT and came within two points of advancing to the NIT Semifinals in Madison Square Garden. During the last two seasons, Flint's teams have won 50 games the most wins in consecutive seasons in the history of Drexel basketball.
The NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches.
