White Releases Inaugural Squash Schedules
8/3/2011 10:29:00 AM | Men's Squash, Women's Squash
PHILADELPHIA – With the squash program's inaugural season fast approaching, Drexel Squash Head Coach John White announced the schedule for the 2011-12 season on Wednesday. The Dragons will open their first season of Division I competition in late October, with the women visiting Haverford on October 26 and the men following suit the next day.
“This year's schedule is going to be challenging for both teams, for sure,” White commented. “There are some of the same teams they have played in the past few years as a club team mixed in with new teams higher in the rankings on the schedule.”
Drexel, which will host the U.S. Open Squash Championship from September 30 through October 6, will host those same Haverford teams on February 1 (women) and 2 (men) for the programs' first ever home matches. The only home contests on the schedule for the inaugural season, those will be played at the John A. Daskalakis Center at 6:30 p.m.
The Dragons will participate in the Navy Round Robins over the first two weekends of November, squaring off with Navy, Georgetown, and George Washington among others. While there, the men's team will also take on Denison on November 12 and Hobart the next day.
After the winter break, the Dragons get back in action January 27-29 when they head to the Bates Round Robin. The women's team concludes its regular season with the home contest against Haverford on February 1, while the men will follow up their home match with a battle against Brown on February 4 at Penn and a duel with Swarthmore on February 11.
“The Round Robin at Bates will be a good test for the men's team,” White pointed out. “Really all the matches for both teams will be challenging in this first season. My main goal is to get both teams moving up the rankings and getting them used to the pressure of playing as a varsity team.”
This year's Men's Teams national will be held at Princeton from February 17-19. The Howe Cup, which decides the women's team champion, is set for the following weekend at Harvard. The CSA Individual Championship will conclude the year at Amherst College from March 2-4.
