Drexel Sends Off Five Seniors and Legendary Coach Jack Childs in Their Last Home Match as Dragons

Philadelphia – Drexel sends off five seniors and Coach Jack Childs in their last home match as Dragons. No. 7 Rutgers defeated Drexel 39-6 at the John A. Daskalakis Athletic Center in tonight's historical match. Childs coached the Dragons from the side-mat for the last time in his 35 year tenure at Drexel and helped to send off seniors Rob Brooks, 174 pounds, Shawn Fausey, 184 pounds, T.J. Laky, 165 pounds, John McDermott, 157 pounds and Justin Wieller, 174 pounds also participating in their last home dual.
Childs will retire at season's end as head coach of the Drexel wrestling program after stepping to the mat over 700 times and putting together an impressive 421-270-9 record. Wieller, captain of the Dragons, stepped to the center circle for the last time as well. Wieller has amassed 60 wins under coach Childs including nine major decisions, two tech. falls and one pin.
Brooks picked up two wins last year at the Cornell Body Bar Invitational and one this year at 174 pounds. Fausey has recorded 18 wins in his career including four major decisions, one tech. fall and one pin. Laky has earned his first career bonus point win with a 15-6 defeat of Harvard's Mike Sadler. McDermott compiled nine victories including one major, one tech. fall and two pins as a Dragon.
Drexel took only two out of 10 bouts while giving up seven bonus point matches during the dual. At 133 pounds, Drexel sophomore Frank Cimato put the Dragons on the board and kept them in striking distance with a 6-3 decision over Rutgers' Mike DeMarco. Drexel then dropped the next six match-ups to trail 33-3. At 197 pounds redshirt freshman Brandon Palik picked up his 18th overall win with a 7-4 decision over Dan Hopkins of the Scarlet Knights.
Childs now prepares his team for a run at the CAA Championships held in Lawrenceville, N.J. Friday, Mar. 4 through Saturday, Mar. 5 followed by appearances in the NCAA Tournament held this year in Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center March 17-19.
