Philadelphia - The Drexel men's basketball team will make its first foreign trip in 18 years this week. The Dragons will play four games in Turkey beginning on Monday night. Two of the games will be played while the team is staying in Cesme and the other two games will be played in Istanbul.
During the upcoming trip, Drexel will stay in the resort town of Cesme, approximately 100 kilometers away from Izmir. In addition to playing two games, the team will also take in the sites and ruins in Ephesus. After spending four nights in Cesme, the Dragons will depart for Istanbul, a city that was once the capital of the Byzantine and then the Ottoman Empire. The team will play a pair of games, inlcuding one against the Egyptian Under 19 National Team. The Dragons will also visit the famed Grand Bazaar, the Blue Mosque and other local tourist sites. Drexel will also have a chance to watch the US National Team, led by Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose and Rajon Rondo play Croatia in the FIBA World Championships.
The Dragons will return to the states on August 30, where they will have a few weeks off before classes start on Sept. 20.
The last time a Drexel men's basketball team played overseas was in the summer of 1992. The Dragons played five games during their 10-day trip to the People's Republic of China.
