Philadelphia – Drexel University freshman Robert Church has been named this week's Colonial Athletic Association men's lacrosse Player of the Week and the league's Rookie of the Week. Church scored a career-high seven goals as the Dragons defeated then No. 8 Hofstra in the team's CAA opener on Saturday. Drexel is now 8-2 and ranked eighth in the nation, the highest ranking in school history.
Church, an attackman for the Dragons, led Drexel to a 13-11 win against the Pride on Saturday. His seven goals came on just nine shots and found the back of the net five times in the first half. The Coquitlam, British Columbia native scored the eventual game-winning goal with just under a minute left in the game. His seven goals were the most in a game by a Dragon since Brian Diener scored seven against Saint Joseph's in 1996. Church now has 24 goals in 10 games this season.
The Dragons' win over Hofstra was their third over a Top-10 ranked opponent this season. It is the first time in school history that the team has accomplished that feat. Drexel is back in action on Saturday afternoon against Penn State at Vidas Field. Face-off is set for 4 p.m. and the game can be seen live on The Comcast Network
