Dragons Double Up Mason, 10-5, to Even Conference Record

Fairfax, Va. - Drexel women's lacrosse used tough defense and hat tricks from Becca Drylie-Perkins and Alyse Maiden to defeat George Mason, 10-5. The win moved Drexel's record to 10-4 including a 2-2 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Patriots, who had five different players record one goal each, dropped to 3-11 and 0-4 in the CAA.
Mason opened the game with a goal from Callie Hoyt but Maiden responed with the first of her three free-position goals on the day to tie the score. Mariana Uribe took a Katie Blazer pass and scored to give Drexel a brief lead as the Patriots responded with a goal from Chelsea Gamble with 15:39 remaining in the first period. Katie Lawson scored her only goal of the game with 9:14 remaining but it was the first of four straight goals for the Dragons to close the half. With just one second remaining, Maiden converted a free-position shot to send Drexel to halftime with a 6-2 lead.
The Patriots threatened to get back in the game with the first two goals of the second half to pull the score to 6-4 with 14:29 remaining but Nicole Musto took a Drylie-Perkins pass and scored with 9:14 left in the game. Drylie-Perkins then added two goals to give the Dragons a 9-4 lead with just 2:37 remaining. Megan Udovich of Mason and Maiden scored the final two goals of the game to deliver the 10-5 final.
The Dragons outshot their hosts, 28-24, and won 10 of the game's 16 draws. Along with a goal and an assist, Blazer added a team-high five groundballs. Whitney Johnson was outstanding in goal recording 11 saves for Drexel while Sara Longobucco stopped 10 shots for Mason.
