Men's Second Varsity Eight Win Grand Final at Knecht Cup

Camden, N.J. - Drexel's second varsity eight triumphed in the grand final in the second day of racing at the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River. The men's varsity eight took sixth in the grand final while the novice eight finished second in one of the closest races of the day. The men's pair also posted a runner-up finish while the novice four took third place.
The Annette Pennoni boat triumphed in the second varsity eight grand final with coxswain Steve Matyas, stroke Filip Topalovic, Gregg Francis, Marty Khait, Chris Hillenbrand, Ernesto Del Valle, Lorenzo Albala, Michael Golden and bow Pat McGann finishing in 5:58.44 more than three seconds ahead of second-place Temple.
The men's varsity eight with coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Aleksander Radovic, Kyle Fabel, Anthony Fittipaldi, Greg Pierce, Brian Timlin, Will Masters, Nick Buyse and bow Jacob Sloan took sixth in the grand final in what was a very tight race as the Dragons were less than six seconds behind first-place Temple as Drexel posted a time of 5:58.91.
The men's novice eight in the Vince Vidas boat with coxswain Justin Malley, stroke Kurt Linton, Jason Browne, Tim Drake, Rylan Treffinger, John Kile, Kam Palagi, Zach Antunes and bow Adam Conti crossed the line in 6:01.82 just 0.59 seconds behind first-place Virginia. The Dragons beat Rutgers, Delaware, Bucknell and Saint Joseph's in the grand final.
The men's pair of Liam O'Neill and Peter Schmidt claimed second place in the grand final with a time of 7:14.99 to finish behind just Mercyhurst who crossed at 7:11.57. The Dragons did outlast Fairfield, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Colgate. The novice four took third in its grand final as the Dawn Byers boat with coxswain Matt Weston, stroke Nick Jensen, Dylan Siegfried, Paul Wisniowski and bow Corey Barnes posted a time of 7:13.10 to finish behind Mercyhurst and Colgate but ahead of Marietta, N.Y. Maritime and Carnegie Mellon.
Drexel had one boat in a petite final as the men's varsity four in the Tobey and Kim Oxholm boat, occupied by coxswain Michelle Lehmann, stroke Michael Gartland, Peter Eyrich, Kevin Rorabaugh and bow Brennan Haydon, took fifth place with a time of 7:06.48.
