Richmond, Va. – Chris Fouch led four Dragons in double figures scoring with 20 points, but the Drexel men's basketball team fell to James Madison in the first round of the CAA Championship, 77-65.
James Madison's (13-19) Denzel Bowles scored 15 of his game-high 22 points in the second half as the Dukes held the lead the entire second half. Drexel (16-16) got as close as five points when Chris Fouch scored on a driving jumper with 5:14 to play to make it a 60-55 contest, but that was as close as the Dragons would get.
James Madison shot well from the floor and from the line in the first half on its way to a 33-27 lead at halftime. The Dukes made 48 percent of their shots from the floor and were 9-for-10 from the line. Pierre Curtis scored 15 points in the first half to lead the Dukes. He was 5-for-6 shooting and made both of his three-point attempts. On the other side of the floor, the Dragons had only nine field goals, shot 29 percent and sank nine of their 17 attempts from the line in the first 20 minutes.
Fouch was only 5-for-12 from the field but was 8-for-11 from the line as he scored 20 for the third time this season. Jamie Harris scored 15, but struggled from the floor. The junior missed his first seven shots and finished 3-for-15. Gerald Colds scored 12 points, while freshman Derrick Thomas added 10 points.
The Dukes will meet William & Mary in the CAA Quarterfinals on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m.
