Women's Basketball to Host East Carolina on Friday in First WNIT Appearance Tonight

Philadelphia - Drexel women's basketball earned its first Women's National Invitation Tournament berth and will host the Pirates of East Carolina University on Friday, March 19 at the DAC at 7:00 p.m. The Dragons (17-13) were the number four seed in the CAA Tournament but exited in the quarterfinals with a tough overtime loss to Delaware. The Pirates (22-10) were eliminated from the Conference USA Tournament by top-seeded Tulane in the semifinals. The teams last met during the 2005-06 season when Drexel lost 66-54 to the host in the ECU Pirate Invitational. Fans can follow tonight's game via livestats, audio and streaming video on www.drexeldragons.com. For the first time, fans will also be able to listent to the game on their iPhone and iPod Touch by clicking here.

The Friday contest will see seniors Gabriela Marginean, Jennifer Stjarnstrom and Alison Lupariello take the DAC court one more time in front of their home fans. The Pirates finished fifth in Conference USA this season and are led by Second Team All-CUSA selection Ashley Clarke. Clarke led the team in scoring (11.6 ppg) and assists (5.6) this season.

Ticket Information

General admission tickets are $8 and event parking is free after 5:00 p.m. at the Drexel garage on 34th and Ludlow Streets.

Tickets are free for Drexel students with a valid Drexel ID and youth under 12-years-old. The first 500 fans at the DAC will receive a commemorative tee shirt and the first 300 Drexel faculty and staff with valid Drexel ID will also receive complimentary tickets. Faculty and staff can pick up their tickets during the week prior to the game at the DAC Ticket Office and at the door on game day, subject to availability.

Fans should plan to come early and join in a pregame rally at the newly opened Landmark Americana adjoining the DAC on 34th Market Street from 5-6:30 p.m. The rally will include a cash bar and free food compliments of Landmark Americana. Free pizza will also be in the Dragon Room for all Drexel students in attendance at the game.

Families are also encouraged to come out early and enjoy the Drexel Kids FanZone, where youngsters can make posters to cheer on their favorite Dragons, get their faces painted and participate in a number of other fun activities.

Come out and help pack the DAC for your Dragons as their play their way toward a WNIT Championship!

Women's Soccer

Ashley Klun scored the game-winning goal for Drexel in a 1-0 win over UMBC in the women's soccer season opener at Vidas Field. Klun netted her first strike of the season with less than seven minutes left in the contest.
