Booth Leads Dragons with Fourth Place Finish at Cliff Keen Invitational

Las Vegas, Nev. – Drexel wrestling closes out competition in the 29th annual Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. The Dragons had nine wrestlers compete with freshman Brandon Palik, 197 pounds, taking eight and 12 seed sophomore Joe Booth, 165 pounds, earning a fourth place finish. Sophomore Josh Yurasits, 141 pounds, was also impressive compiling a 3-2 record over the weekend.
Despite starting off with a loss to Purdues' Akif Eren, Yurasits was able to rattle off three consecutive victories including a 15-0 technical fall over Dickinson's Adam Orton. Yurasits also recorded two major decisions on the weekend including a 16-6 major decision over Western Wyoming's Markos Serna and a 10-1 major over Northern Idaho's Brandon Mowry before falling to Chris Diaz of Virginia Tech. Yurasits leads the Dragons with three major decision wins this season.
Palik went 3-3 on the day while earning an impressive eight place finish in the 197 pound bracket. Palik racked up two straight wins before suffering his first loss. A 6-0 decision over Navy's Andrew Buck and a 5-2 decision over Boise State's Matt Casperson along with a pin of Wisconsin's Derrick Borlie in 6:55 helped set Palik up with a chance to place. In the seventh place bout, Palik eventually surrendered a close 7-4 decision in favor of Illinois' Mario Gonzalez. Palik is 6-5 overall with a team leading three win by falls.
Booth had a similar start, earning two straight victories with a 10-5 decision over Utah Valley's Jeb Clark and a 10-8 decision over Oklahoma's Chase Nelson. After nearly escaping a 1-0 loss to CAA rival Hofstra's Paul Gillespie, Booth went to work with three consecutive decisions including a sudden decision over Eren Civan from Columbia. In the third place bout, Booth was pinned in 4:04 when he was caught trying to slip out of a hold from Cal Poly's Ryan DesRoches. Booth placed 4th place helping lead Drexel to a team finish of 20 out of 36.
The Dragons are back in action next weekend, December 12, as the travel to Bloomsburg for the Bloomsburg Duals.
