Men's Varsity Eight Take Fourth, Women's Varsity Eight Nab Second at Navy Day Regatta

Philadelphia - Drexel opened its 2010-11 season at the Navy Day Regatta with strong showings from both varsity eight boats as the men finished fourth out of 29 boats while the women took second out of 12 entrants. Prior to the varsity eight racing Drexel dedicates the Marlene Buckley, Katheryn Buckley, Sandra Lee Sheller and the Warren & Betty Keppart boats.
Drexel will begin racing with the Dawn Byers boat fthat featured coxswain Steve Matyas, Paul Wisniowski, Scott Nordsiek, Kameron Palagi and John Luciani taking 22nd out of 24 boats with a time of 15:43.93. The men's freshman eight raced next in the 1972 boat with coxswain Marc Smith, stroke Sebastian Ryan, Vanja Busic, John Pieper, Marcus DeMarici, Brent Basso, Matthew Ryan, Nicholas Feibel and bow Andrew Pope Starnes. The boat finished sixth out of 14 entries with a time of 14:00.14. The women's freshman eight fared even better with a second place finish out of 10 boats as the Joseph Greipp boat with coxswain Dana Piccoli, stroke Shannon O'Donnell, Colleen Delaney, Kayla Wroblesky, Sloane Spurlock, Elizabeth Daugherty, Alyssa Leahy, Sarah Mackenzie and bow Caitlin Buser clocked a 15:49.15.. In the men's second varsity eight competition the Annette Pennoni finished in eighth place at 13:50.61 while the Peggy Greenawalt was right behind in ninth place with a time of 13:51.36 in the 15 boat competition. In the Annette Pennoni was comprised of coxswain Justin Malley, stroke Ernesto Del Valle, Patrick McGann, Anthony Fitipaldi, Gregg Francis, Martin Khait, Gregory Pierce, Michael Faust and bow Adam Cordi while the Peggy Greenawalt featured coxswain Arlynn Katz, stroke Liam O'Neill, Peter Schmidt, Dylan Siegfried, Nicholas Buyse, Kevin Rorabaugh, Michael Golden, Brennan Haydon and bow Peter Eyrich. In the women's second varsity eight competition, coxswain Alexandra Paulin, stroke Colleen Owens, Samantha Cowan, Natasha Martines, Elise Panacek, Taylor Mondak, Brianna Simmers, Asiya Mahmud and bow Brooke Wertan in the John Daskalakis boat took eighth place with a time of 15:50.46 while the Anna Marie took 10th of 12 with a time of 16:57.86 with coxswain Caitlin Meehan, stroke Amanda Dargay, Lillian Reed, Jillian Skovran, Jackie Bender, Emily Fluharty, Adrianna Moreno, Katie Cheng and bow Brogan Piecara.
Randall Lee coxed the Vince Vidas boat with stroke Kurt Linton, Lorenzo Albala, Aleksander Radovic, Kyle Fabel, Brian Timlin, William Masters, Tim Drake and bow Jacob Sloan to a fourth place finish with a time of 12:47.30. The boat finished behind Penn A.C., Navy and Penn. Coxswain Cate Khella led stroke Liz Bratton, Dana Haneman, Julia Jackson, Emily Coyle, Juliana DeMarici, Alexa Antonioli, Casondra Clawson and bow Mollie Cusack in the Marlene Buckley boat to a second place finish behind only Penn with a time of 14.42.80.
