
Sinclair Makes Nine Saves as Drexel Ties Northeastern, 1-1

Boston, Mass. – Nicole Sinclair had nine saves as Drexel earned a 1-1 tie at Northeastern on Sunday afternoon. Jess Lowinger tied the game midway through the second half as the Dragons spoiled the Huskies' CAA opener in Boston.
In the second overtime Jenna Lindsay and Sara Clair just missed giving Drexel (4-7-1, 0-3-1 CAA) the win. Lindsay raced ahead for a Rachel Sheridan pass and had a shot from close in but at a tough angle. Michelle Sopko held the post and made the save. Clair had a left-footed shot from just inside the box after a corner that went over the net. The Huskies (7-3-1, 2-2-1) countered and Greta Samuelsdottir's kick from the left side was deflected over the net by Nicole Sinclair.
Samuelsdottir put the Huskies on the board in the 56th minute. She took a feed from Kelly Matthews, split the defenders and beat Drexel goalkeeper Nicole Sinclair for her sixth goal of the year. Just two minutes later, the Dragons answered and tied the score. Chiarelli made a nice move with the ball and fed freshman Jess Lowinger, heading towards the corner. She changed directions and headed for the net, where she beat the Huskies goalkeeper to her left for her first career goal.
Samuelsdottir had a chance to give Northeastern the lead with 20 minutes to play. She had a direct kick from right outside of the top of the box after a Drexel foul. Her attempt was thwarted as Sinclair came up with a big save. The Dragons also had an outstanding chance to break the tie with just 10 minutes remaining. Jenna Lindsay made a nice move to fake out a defender. She had a shot from about 15 yards out heading for the far corner. NU keeper Sopko dove and got a piece of the ball, deflecting it just wide and keeping the game tied at one.
The first half featured numerous opportunities for both teams. Just eight minutes into the match, Jenna Lindsay took a nice feed from one of the Drexel midfielders and broke in on the left side with an NU defender on her hip. Lindsay fired a shot towards the far corner, but Sopko dove and got her hand on the ball. Northeastern had two big chances midway through the first half. Samuelsdottir hit the post on two different occasions. The first time she hit it, teammate Veronica Napoli picked up the rebound and fired it past Sinclair. However, Drexel's Katie Duncan was the last line of defense and made the save, preserving the scoreless battle at that time.
The Huskies outshot Drexel, 26-18, in the game. Sopko made 11 saves for Northeastern.
The Dragons return to Philadelphia for a pair of key conference matches next weekend. Drexel host William & Mary on Friday afternoon at Vidas Field and Old Dominion visits University City on Sunday afternoon.
