Hampton, Va. - Drexel suffered a first-round loss in the 30th annual Virginia Duals Competition at the Hampton Coliseum as 19th-ranked Kent State defeated 34-6. The Golden Flashes extended their winning streak to seven matches while the Dragons dipped to 4-5 on the season. Drexel's highlight of the match came at 133 pounds as 19th-ranked Steve Mytych stunned fifth-ranked Danny Mitcheff, 5-3. The Dragons' other victory in the dual came from senior Brett McCurdy at 149 pounds. With the loss, Drexel will now face No. 24 Virginia Tech in the consolation bracket.
After a Kent State win by fall at 125 pounds. Mytych took down No. 5 Danny Mitcheff of KSU by a score of 5-3 to give the Dragons their first points of the dual. Earlier this season, in their first meeting, Mitcheff won a close decision 6-5 against Mytych at the Cornell Body Bar Invitational.
