
Trio of Dragons Compete at Prestigious Georgia Diving Invitational

Athens, Ga. - Drexel's Ian Jevnick, Stephen Cal and Megan Halicek faced some of the nation's toughest competition at one of the most prestigious mid-season event in collegiate diving at the Georgia Diving Invitational. The highlight for the Dragons was Jevnick's berth in the finals of the 3-meter competition after qualifying through prelims. The meet featured divers from nearly all of the Southeast Conference schools as well as several Atlantic Coast Conference institutions.
Jevnick earned his spot in the 3-meter finals by topping the 300-point mark to take 12th place in qualifying. The junior's score of 300.80 earned the last finals berth as he edged 13th-place Colin Bell of the University of Florida by 5.70 points. The other 11 divers in the finals included two divers from the University of Tennessee, two divers from the University of Alabama, two divers from the University of North Carolina and one diver each from Auburn, Louisana State, Florida, Southern Methodist and Georgia. Jevnick went on to take 12th in the finals with a score of 297.35 while Tennessee's Ryan Helms won the title. Cal finished with a score of 214.05 to place 36th in qualifying in the 3-meter event.
In the men's 1-meter action, Jevnick racked up a score of 251.75 to finish 20th in the prelims while Cal placed 32nd with a score of 224.90. Tim Barrett of Georgia claimed the 12th and final qualifying spot for the finals with a score of 277.70 while Matt Culbertson of Southern Methodist won the finals.
Halicek made a solid first career appearance at the Georgia Diving Invitational. The freshman narrowly missed a place in the 1-meter finals as she completed the prelims with a score of 244.05, just 7.85 points behind 12th-place finisher Tien Tran of Iowa State. Her score was good for 15th place overall. She also finished the 3-meter competition among the top 20 after placing 19th in qualifying of the 3-meter compeition with a score of 231.80. There were 46 divers competing in both events.
