Philadelphia – Three contests against Philadelphia Big 5 teams, an appearance against national-power Kentucky and Drexel's first-ever home tournament will highlight the 2009-10 Dragons' men's basketball schedule.
Drexel will participate in the Legends Classic in November. The Dragons will travel to an opponent to be determined and then host three games at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Toledo, Vermont and Ivy-Champ Cornell will participate in three straight days of doubleheader action at the DAC during the Thanksgiving break.
The year starts off with a trip to Saint Joseph's, where Drexel will open the Hawks' newly-renovated facility. It will be one of three games against city rivals. The Dragons play Penn at the Palestra on Nov. 24 and will face Villanova, a team that went to the Final Four a year ago, on the Main Line in December. It will be the first meeting against the Wildcats since 2006, when Drexel upset the 'Cats at the Pavilion.
The Dragons will play against John Calipari's team for the second-straight season, This year, the Dragons will play at Rupp Arena against the University of Kentucky for the first time in school history. That will be the second game of a road trip which starts with a return game at Cal State Northridge. The other non-conference road games include a trip to Niagara and an ESPN Bracketbusters game to be announced in January.
Drexel will host St. Francis (Pa.) and Atlantic-10 foe Rhode Island at the DAC. The Dragons will play home-and-home against Delaware, Hofstra, James Madison, Northeastern, Towson, VCU and William & Mary. Drexel will face Old Dominion and Georgia State on the road and will host both UNCW and George Mason.
