Philadelphia - Drexel jumped out to a 10-0 first-half lead en route to a 18-4 victory over Wagner in a non-conference women's lacrosse game played at Vidas Field. The win halted a seven-game losing streak as the Dragons improved to 8-8 on the season. Charlotte Wood and Ali Allen each scored three goals while 11 different Dragons scored at least one goal. Wagner was led by Krista Malayter who contributed two goals.
The Dragons scored early and often as Allen connected just over three minutes into the contest to open the 10-0 run. Wood and Lawson each tallied twice in the outburst while Morgan Holbrook handed out two assists as the Dragons put the game away in the first half. The Seahawks got on the board with 9:13 remaining on Malayter's first score but Drexel notched the final three goals of the half including Catalina Friscia's first career tally. After a 13-1 halftime lead, the Dragons substituted liberally in the second half. The advantage grew to 15 goals after Allen third and final goal with 20:04 left in the game put Drexel up 16-1. Wagner scored three of the final five goals of the game to bring the final to 18-4.
Drexel's leading scorer Katie Lawson posted two goals and two assists in limited action while Kimberly Kabernagel and Katie Blazer each added a pair of goals. Kabernagel and Musto were especially active in the midfield as they each picked up three groundballs and three draw controls. Emily Kane also had a fine all-around game with game-high totals of four groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Lauren LaBella earned her 42nd career victory, the most for any goalie in Drexel's Division I Women's Lacrosse history. She made four saves in just under 46 minutes of action. Alex Johnston stopped 10 first-half shots for Wagner before being replaced by Amy Jones who made four saves while allowing five goals.
The Dragons will end their season in Hempstead, N.Y. with a visit to Hofstra on Saturday, April 25. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
