Philadelphia - The Drexel men's varsity eight were edged by Army for the Dr. Thomas Kerr Cup at the 43rd annual Kerr Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River. Drexel posted a time of 6:18.03 while Army earned the victory after recording a 6:16.78. The Dragons also had a runner-up finish in the novice eight race and the varsity four event.
The Dragons varsity eight were unable to defend the Dr. Thomas Kerr Cup after last season's triumph. The Drexel boat cut into Army's lead over the final 500 meters but the Black Knights held on for the victory. The Army triumph also clinched the Kerr Cup Team Title while the Dragons took second in the overall standings of the regatta.
The Drexel varsity four took first in its qualifying heat with a time of 7:05.28 but were outraced by New York Maritime in the final. In the novice eight final, Drexel held off boats from New York Maritime, La Salle, George Mason and UNC Wilmington to place second with a time of 6:37.54. Only Army finished with a faster time at 6:34.00.
Drexel Crew returns to action on Saturday, April 25 at the Bergen Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River.
