Harris Leads Drexel Past Cal State Northridge, 75-63

Northridge, Calif. – Jamie Harris scored 24 points and handed out a season-high seven assists as Drexel defeated Cal State Northridge, 75-63. It was the third win in a row for the Dragons, who are now 6-5.

The game was tied midway through the second half, but Drexel pulled away. Derrick Thomas hit a pair of key jumpers and Harris converted a three-point play to get the lead to 10 points. Northridge (4-6) chipped away and cut it to four, but the Dragons were too much down the stretch. Drexel shot 53 percent in the second half and the Matadors made just 13 of their 21 free throws in the second half.

The Dragons led at intermission, 37-31. Harris scored 11 points and handed out three assists in the first 20 minutes. Cal State Northridge shot 48 percent from the floor, but the Dragons forced 13 Matador turnovers. The Dragons’ defense held Cal State Northridge scoreless for a stretch of more than four minutes late in the half as Drexel extended the lead from two points to nine points with 6:21 to play. Samme Givens and Gerald Colds each had four steals in the half. Daryl McCoy also had a big half for the Dragons with six rebounds and three blocks.

Colds scored 17 points and was 6-for-13 from the floor. Chris Fouch came off the bench to score 12 points, while Thomas finished with 10. Lenny Daniel led the Matadors with 13 points and seven rebounds. Samme Givens had five of Drexel’s season-high 12 steals.

Drexel continues its two-game trip on Monday night in Lexington, Ky. The Dragons face No. 33 Kentucky at Rupp Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
