College Park, Md. - The Drexel wrestling team will open its 2009-10 season with a pair of duals on the campus of the University of Maryland on Saturday, Nov. 7. The Dragons will take on the 10th-ranked Terrapins at 2:00 p.m. before a 4:00 p.m. bout with York College. Senior co-captain and three-time NCAA Qualifier Steve Mytych headlines the Drexel team this season.

The Dragons are coming off of a 10-15-1 season in 2008-09. Drexel sent one wrestler to the NCAA Championships last season and will look to add to that number this season. Mytych missed last season with an injury but was granted a fifth year of eligibility by the NCAA. He will most likely start the season as the Dragons' top 133-pound option. True freshman Josh Yurasits could be Head Coach Jack Childs' pick for 125 pounds while the arrival of graduate student Brett McCurdy from Penn could give Drexel a boost at 141 pounds.

At 149 pounds, Shane Fenningham and/or John McDermott could wrestle on Saturday. The duals will also likely see the highly anticipated Drexel debut of redshirt freshman Joe Booth at 157 pounds. At 165 pounds, 2008-09 All-CAA Rookie Team pick Alex Rinaldi will likely see time on the mat. Junior Dave Woodall has five career wins by fall and is a top candidate for Drexel's 174-pound slot. The Dragons have two capable wrestlers at 184 pounds: Justin Wieller and Shawn Fausey. Redshirt freshman Jack Callender appears to be Childs' choice to take over the 197-pound weight class after the graduation of NCAA Qualifier Jon Oplinger. Heavyweight Kyle Frey posted the most wins of any returner from the 2008-09 season and will look to begin his trek toward his first NCAA Championships appearance.
