Philadelphia – Longtime Philadelphia soccer coaching veteran Lew Meehl has resigned as the men's soccer head coach at Drexel University. Meehl spent 17 years on the Drexel sidelines as head coach. He will retire as the second winningest coach in the program's history. Meehl was a three-time conference coach of the year and a five-time Philadelphia Soccer Six Coach of the Year while at Drexel, while leading the team to eight top-five finishes in conference play and five Soccer Six titles, including winning a share of this year's Soccer Six Championship.
“Drexel Athletics would like to thank Lew Meehl for his 17 years of service,” Drexel Director of Athletics Dr. Eric Zillmer said. “We appreciate everything he has done and all of his hard work over the years. We wish him the best in the future”
“For the last 40 years as a player and a coach soccer has been a huge part of my life,” Meehl said. “I feel the time has come for me to devote more time to my family and my grandchildren. It has been a great experience at Drexel. The commitment of our athletic administration has been exceptional. My assistant coaches, Woody Hartman and Rick Tompkins, were a big part of the success we have had here at Drexel.”

His team won the 1998 America East Championship, the 1995 North Atlantic Conference regular-season championship and, most recently, the 2007 Colonial Athletic Association regular-season title. Meehl's legacy at Drexel includes a record of 133-150-31,
This past season, his final one at Drexel, Meehl's team had 5-12-1 record, and went undefeated in Soccer Six play to earn a share of the league title.
