Dragons Send Two to Semifinals in Singles Play at ODU Collegiate Invitational

Norfolk, Va. - Anahita Jagtiani and Alex Barnes advanced to the semifinals in their respective championship brackets on the second day of play at the Old Dominion Collegiate Invitational. A host of Dragons were in action in both men's and women's singles play on Saturday, Oct. 3 in Norfolk. 

Playing in the first group of C Flight singles, Anahita Jagtiani earned a first-round bye and then defeated Hofstra's Melissa Gilanchi in straight sets 6-3, 6-0. She will face Georgetown's Michelle Pratt at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4. 

In the first group of D-Filght singles players on the men's side, Alex Barnes beat Morgan State's Duwane Thomas 6-0, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals. Barnes will take on Ondei Kralis from Campbell at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday. 

In other men's singles action, Nikoloz Kurdadze won a tight three-setter over Virginia Commonwealth's Camill Salomon 6-2, 7-5, 7-6(5) to advance in the championship bracket of the second group of A-Flight singles players. Kurdadze would fall to Mike Smith of James Madison in straight sets in the quarterfinals. 

Several singles players will continue competition on Sunday in the consolation brackets as well as Barnes and Jagtiani who are still alive for singles championships.
