Box Score

Philadelphia, Pa.— Andrew Chapman (Toronto, Ont./Oliver Mowat) led a balanced scoring attack with three goals as Drexel defeated Robert Morris, 11-7, at Vidas Field. The Dragons scored the first four goals of the game and never trailed in the contest as they improved to 2-0 in the CAA and 9-2 overall. Robert Morris fell to 4-7 and 0-3 in league play.

Robert Morris scored three straight goals in the final three minutes of the second quarter to make it a 4-3 game at halftime. Andrew Watt scored the first two goals, including one with a man-up, and Corbyn TaoBrambleby found the net with just nine seconds remaining on the clock. That was as close as the Colonials would come as Drexel scored the next four goals of the game.

Ron Garling (Swarthmore, Pa./Ridley) scored just eight seconds into the third quarter as Nick Kusturiss (Media, Pa./Penncrest) won the face-off clean and set up the goal. Scott Perri (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) added a man-up goal midway through the third and Chapman scored a pair in the final five minutes of the quarter as Drexel took a commanding 8-3 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Dragons led 11-5 before the Colonials scored a pair of goals in the final 49 seconds to make it an 11-7 game.

Adam Dennis (Fairfax, Va./DeMatha) gave the Dragons an early 1-0 lead with the first of two goals for the sophomore just 52 seconds into the game. Chapman, Garling and Perri each scored in the first quarter as the Dragons held the Colonials off the board in the first 15 minutes and ended the quarter with a 4-0 lead.

Drexel outshot Robert Morris, 44-37, as both goalkeepers played well in the game. Bruce Bickford, Drexel’s All-America candidate in the cage, made 15 saves. Sal Barcia came up with 17 saves, including 10 in the second half, when Drexel’s offense began to click. The Dragons won 12 of the 22 face-offs in the game. Kusturiss was 7-for-11 for Drexel, while Keith Lee won seven of his 12 attempts for the Colonials.

Drexel begins a big week with a road game at No. 17 Delaware on Wednesday. The Dragons will face Towson in Maryland on Saturday in a game that can be seen on CN8.
