Hluschak Breaks Drexel's All-Time Win Mark

Philadelphia - Drexel lost dual meets to a pair of ACC schools at the Palestra as Drexel fell to N.C. State, 22-15, and lost to North Carolina, 26-12. Drexel's Ryan Hluschak earned a 5-1 decision over N.C. State's Colton Palmer as the senior 157-pounder broke the Dragons' all-time mark for wins with 113. Tim Rothka's record of 112 wins lasted for 17 years.
The Wolfpack opened the match with three straight victories including a win by fall at 149 pounds. Hluschak got the Dragons on the board with his record-breaking victory to make the match score, 12-3. Jalil Dozier responded for the Wolfpack at 165 pounds by picking up a 15-7 major decision victory. Scott Hunter earned three points for Drexel with a 12-5 victory at 174 pounds followed by a win by technical fall by freshman Justin Wieller. Mark Jahad extended the lead for the visitors with a 9-3 decision as the Wolfpack led 19-11 with just two matches remaining. N.C. State clinched the match as heavyweight Bobby Isola outdueled Bryant Deinhardt, 3-2. Drexel's Steve Mytych closed the match with a major decision win at 125 pounds.
In the second match of the day, Danny Lopes got the Tar Heels off to a 6-0 start as he earned a pin over John McDermott at 2:07 in the 133-pound bout. North Carolina added to its lead with wins by decision at 141 pounds and 149 pounds. The Tar Heels appeared to be on their way to padding their lead as Thomas Scotton earned a pair of early takedowns against Ryan Hluschak, but the senior All-American responded by tying the match in the third period. Hluschak earned a takedown with just 20 seconds remaining to give Drexel its first win of the match, 7-5. The win was the 25th of the season for the 157-pounder as the Dragons drew to within nine of North Carolina, 12-3. At 165 pounds, 12th-ranked Keegan Mueller of North Carolina picked up an 8-1 victory over Billy Haydt. Scott Hunter earned a hard-fought overtime victory over Kyle Kiss as he rode Kiss in overtime and was able to escape to win 4-3. North Carolina won the 184-pound match with the same score as Nick Tenpenny used a late takedown to secure the win. The Tar Heels clinched the victory as Dennis Drury earned an 8-0 major decision win over Brian Stouffer. Drexel closed the day's action with a Steve Mytych win by injury default. The junior 125-pounder was ahead, 3-1, when Drew Forshey was unable to contiue with two seconds remaining in the match.
Drexel returns to the mat on Tuesday, Feb. 5 as the Dragons travel to Lawrenceville, N.J. to take on Rider at 7:00 p.m.
