Women's Tennis Blasts City Rival Saint Joseph's, 6-1

Philadelphia - Drexel women's tennis served notice to their city rival Saint Joseph's with a commanding 6-1 win over the Hawks on the road. The Dragons swept three doubles matches and won five out of six on the singles side. Newcomer Gozde Unkaya took the clinching match for the Dragons in a straight-set win over Maggie Mullaney at second singles. Seniors Emily and Mellissa Lewis took care of business in both singles and doubles play winning both of their matches to help the Dragons improve to 2-0.
Elise Leizerovich and Unkaya improved to 2-0 in singles play on the season. Leizerovich defeated Katy Borden 6-3, 6-1 at third singles. Unkaya closed out the match, giving Drexel its fourth team point when she broke Mullaney's service after two match points to win 6-4, 6-1. Transfer Anahita Jagtiani picked up her first win as a Dragon in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 over Laura Matz.
The Dragons take their home court for the first time this season when the team hosts Delaware State on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 2:30 p.m.
