Philadelphia, Pa. – The Dragon rowers continued their success on the Schuylkill this weekend as the men's crew recorded two top-five finishes in the final heats of the Murphy Cup Regatta and the women's varsity four finished third and the varsity eight placed fourth in the preliminaries.
In the men's competition, Drexel's varsity eight advanced to the final round of competition by earning a third-place preliminary finish in 5:01.67. Doug Allcorn, Alan Fody, Mike Krantz, Vince Zapisek, Austin Barolin, Chris Hillenbrand, Terry Mascitelli, and Michael Niles returned to the water for the varsity eight final where they garnered a fifth-place finish, clocking 5:26.64. The team of Julie Jenkinson, Heather Strittmatter, Candice Webb, Rose Morowitz, and Shannon Haley crossed the line in 6:50.50, only one second shy of the runner-up boat. The varsity eight easily defeated Sacred Heart and Loyola to earn a fourth-place finish in the preliminary heat. The team of Eden Ginn, Jahneva Harrison, Demi Del Valle, Vanessa Clifford, Chelsea Nowakowski, Catherine Scanlon, Kate McLaughlin, Sarah Grogan, and Elizabeth Adler improved six seconds from their pervious competition on the Schuylkill, but their finish time of 6:20.98 was not good enough to qualify for finals.
