Norfolk, Va. -Drexel tennis swept Norfolk State in the first match in over a month for both the Drexel men's and women's teams. The Dragons edged the Spartans in both matches, 4-3. With the wins, the Drexel women's team moved to 7-5 on the season while the men jumped to 6-5.
The Drexel women's team was carried by the play of Jaimee Wylie (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township). The sophomore won her singles match over Andrea Degirmenci, 6-3, 6-1, then teamed with Jenn Rimmey (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) to take a doubles match, 8-5. Also providing wins in singles play was Kristy Pron (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) and Jillian Toussaint (Palmerton, Pa./Palmerton Area).
For the men, it was Ayushya Wadhwan (Mumbai, India/Mithibai College) who led the Dragons to victory. Wadhwan topped Omari Dennis in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3 and joined senior Pasquale Cardone (Sarasota, Fla./Holy Spirit) in defeating Roman Del Castillo and Dennis in doubles play. The victories proved to be enough as Drexel toppled the Spartans, 4-3.
The Dragons return to action on Thursday, March 30 when they face CAA-foe James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va.
