Dragons Fall to Elon

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team was defeated by the Elon Phoenix, 13-3, on Saturday evening at the Drexel Softball Field.
Violet Marta started in the circle for Drexel and went 4.1 innings and striking out two batters. Madison Taylor entered the game in relief and pitched 1.2 innings.
Mia Garza was responsible for all three of Drexel's runs. The senior finished the series opener going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. The Acres Homes, Texas native hit a home run in the fourth inning to score Drexel's first two runs. In the fifth, Garza hit a single up the middle and scored Izzy Alamillo to push Drexel's score to three.
Elon scored three runs in the first inning, all on singles. In the second inning, Elon's damage was limited to one on a sacrifice fly. In the fourth inning, the Phoenix scored five runs to push their lead to nine.
After Drexel dwindled the lead to seven in the fourth, Elon extended it to eight in the fifth inning. Again, Drexel avoided the mercy rule by scoring in the fifth.
Elon's offense scored three runs in the sixth inning to take a 10-run lead over the Dragons.
Drexel and Elon are set to play a doubleheader on Sunday morning to complete the three-game series. First pitch of the first game on Sunday is set for 11 a.m. from the Drexel softball field.
