Wrestling Drops Dual at Rider to Close Regular Season

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Drexel University wrestling team (2-1) dropped a Thursday evening dual to the Rider University Broncs (4-1) from Lawrenceville, N.J. by a final of 20-16 to close out the regular season.
Rider went up 9-0 in the dual before Drexel won at 149, 157 and 174 pounds to take a 13-11 lead with three matches to go. But the Broncs won at 184 pounds before a forfeit at heavyweight sealed the victory for Rider.
Luke Nitchter picked up a 10-4 decision victory at 157 pounds over Rider's Wyatt McCarthy for Drexel's first win of the night after losses at 125, 133 and 141 to begin the dual. Nitcher held a 5-1 lead after two periods before extending it for the win in the third.
Parker Kropman followed up Nitcher's decision with a 15-6 major decision against Rider's Cole McComas at 157 pounds. Kropman owned a 4-1 lead with 1:59 of riding time after the first and a 7-3 advantage after two periods.
After trailing 9-0, Drexel trimmed the deficit down to 9-7 at intermission with Nitchter's and Kropman's victories.
At 165 pounds, Evan Barczak lost a close 5-3 decision in overtime to Jake Silverstein of the Broncs as Rider went up 12-7 in the dual.
Michael O'Malley gave the Dragons their first lead of the night with his win by fall over Rider's Angel Garcia at 174 pounds. It took O'Malley 2:38 into the first period to pin Garcia, getting Drexel six points to take a 13-11 edge in the match.
But a decision victory at 184 pounds put Rider back up overall, 14-13, with two matches remaining.
Bryan McLaughlin swung things back in Drexel's favor at 197 pounds, defeating Matt Correnti by a 4-3 decision to put the Dragons up 16-14 heading into the last match.
A forfeit at heavyweight gave Rider the 20-16 victory.
