Tennis Honored at CAA Banquet

PHILADELPHIA - On Thursday, April 18 five members from men's and women's tennis were honored at the CAA banquet held in Williamsburg, Va. Badr Ouabdelmoumen, Zeynep Mafa, Nicole Pivonka, Emma Brook, and Marcela Rosales each received awards for their outstanding performances in conference play.
Badr Ouabdelmoumen received first team all CAA honors for Drexel. Ouabdelmoumen had a strong season for the Dragons, winning 8 singles and 6 doubles matches. In conference play he led the team in their first ever victory over Delaware (4-3), capturing both his double and single matches. He also contributed to the win over Hofstra where he took down the Pride's Ari Richman in a tough, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, match. Ouabdelmoumen's aggressive play and endurance ensured the ultimate win. The men ended their season, 8-5, with a, 2-1, conference record.
For the women, Zeynep Mafa brought home first team all CAA honors. Mafa led the team with 9 singles and 8 doubles wins throughout the course of the season. Her and teammate Marcela Rosales went on a six game doubles winning streak with their eventual loss to UMBC. Mafa had crucial conference action against Towson when she took down her opponent in straight sets and kicked off the wins that led to the teams victory, 4-3.
Nicole Pivonka and Emma Brook received second team all CAA doubles for their strong performance. Pivonka also received third team all CAA honors. Marcela Rosales and Mafa were also recognized to the third team all CAA doubles.
