Philadelphia – Sophomore Badr Ouabdelmoumen (Rabat, Morocco) earned Colonial Athletic Association men's tennis honors for the week ending April 7. He shares the privilege with the UNCW doubles team of senior Kosta Blank (Winnipeg, Canada) and senior Chris Cooprider (Denver, Colo.). This marks the first time Ouabdelmoumen has been recognized by the league and also the first time any men's or women's tennis player has been recognized this season.
Ouabdelmoumen defeated Saint Joseph's Jose Sierra in two sets last Thursday afternoon. He won 6-1 and 6-2 in the Dragons' 4-2 loss to the Hawks. On Saturday, Ouabdelmoumen won his singles and doubles matches helping Drexel defeat conference rival Delaware for the first time in program history, 4-3. Ouabdelmoumen and teammate Xabier Saavedra outlasted the Blue Hen's Nolan Gelman and Eron Andrews in doubles, 8-7. In singles play, Ouabdelmoumen dropped his first set to Troy Beneck, 6-2, before winning two-straight sets, 6-4 and 7-5. The sophomore is now 8-3 in singles and 5-5 in doubles play this spring. Together, the men's team improved to 8-5 overall and 2-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
The men's tennis team will take to Drexel tennis courts on Friday, April 12 for their last regular season match against Wagner. Games are scheduled to begin at 12: 00 p.m.
