PHILADELPHIA - After defense helped the Drexel men's soccer team win its home opener against Lehigh on Friday night, the Dragons got a piece of good news on Monday as junior defender Tal Bublil was named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Defender of the Week. Bublil became the first Dragon to earn a weekly award this season.
Drexel earned its first shutout of the season on Friday, ceding just one shot to the Mountain Hawks during the game. Bublil anchored the defense which kept the ball out of its own end for the most part, and responded when faced with one of Lehigh's few challenges. Their lone shot was a low rocket from the right side of goalkeeper Tim Washam. Bublil slid in from the left of the shooter and blocked the ball away, keeping it inbounds to prevent a corner kick. The shot came in the game's 82nd minute with Drexel holding onto a 1-0 lead.
The Dragons will play their second-consecutive Patriot League foe on Wednesday, when they travel to Lafayette for a 7:00 p.m. game. Drexel is looking to continue its two-game winning streak. Their last winning streak of at least three games was a four-game stretch to open the 2010 season.
