Drexel Crew Advances Eight Boats at the 74th Annual Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta

Philadelphia – Drexel Crew dominated in the qualifying heats at the prestigious 74th annual Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta hosted on Philadelphia's Schuylkill River. Director of Rowing Paul Savell will advance seven of 10 boats to the semi-finals on Saturday, May 12 along with the women's second varsity eight that secured a spot in the finals with a chance to win the Coleman D. Boylan Trophy. Together, the Dragons had five top-times and three second place finishes on the day.
The fourth-seeded men's varsity eight boat, in the newly named Louis Krall boat, took first place with a time of 7:00.106. Georgia Tech came in second place with a time of 6:09.454 followed by Lehigh, Albany and Ohio University respectively. The shell included Randall Lee, stroke Kurt Linton, Paul Wisniowski, Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Sebastian Ryan, Vanja Busic, Michael Faust and bow Will Masters. At 10:58 a.m. on Saturday, the men's varsity eight will face La Salle, Michigan State, Grand Valley and Temple from lane four in the semi-finals. The top two finishers will advance to the finals at 4:30 p.m. for the Richard O'Brien Trophy.
The top-seeded men's novice eight, in the Peggy Greenawalt boat, crossed the finish line first with a time of 6:06.897. Brock posted a runner-up time of 6:08.397 followed by Minnesota, Connecticut University and Liberty. The boat consisted of coxswain Victoria Kenion, stroke Dean Hill, Brian McCabe, Hartman Byers, Jake Murphy, Christian Ladd, Casimir Czworkowski, Grigorios Papadourakis and bow Cameron Staines. At 8:26 a.m., the men's novice eight will take on Army, Delaware, Purdue, Jacksonville and Albany from lane three in the semi-finals. The two fastest times will look to win the Lev Brett Bowl at 2:00 p.m. in the finals.
The men's novice four, in the Tobey & Kim Oxholm boat, finished behind Western Ontario for second place with a time of 7:08.689. Western Ontario stopped the clock at 7:04.363 for first place. Coxswain Diana Fox, stroke David Gockley, Mahmoud Shurbaji, James Byrne and bow Matt Gehret placed ahead of Connecticut University, Army, Rutgers and William & Mary. At 7:50 a.m., the men's novice four will race against Rochester, Michigan, Temple, Colgate and Bowdoin from lane six in the semi-finals. The top two boats will secure a spot in the finals at 1:30 p.m.
The men's varsity pair, in the Katherine M.L. Buckley boat, posted the top-time with a 7:42.497. Temple came in second with a time of 7:54.745. Drexel's Adam Cordi and Pete Eyrich outlasted the College of New Jersey, Lafayette and New York University. At 9:08 a.m., the men's varsity pair will see Brock, Grand Valley, N.Y. Maritime, Clemson and Washington College from lane four in the semifinals. The top two times will land a place in the finals at 2:20 p.m. for the Bob Negaard Cup.
The ninth-seeded women's varsity eight, in the Marlene Buckley II boat, crossed the finish line behind Grand Valley with a time of 6:40.259. Grand Valley took first place with a time of 6:38.263. Coxswain Alex Paulin, stroke Julia Jackson, Elizabeth Daugherty, Mollie Cusack, Samantha Cowan, Elizabeth Bratton, Emily Coyle, Sierra Baca and bow Alexa Antonioli finished ahead of Georgia Tech, Florida University, Villanova and Eastern Michigan. At 10:38 a.m., the women's varsity eight will race against Purdue, Dayton and Miami from lane five in the semi-finals. The top two boats will look to take the Evelyn Bergman Trophy at the 4:20 p.m. finals.

Saint Joseph's took first with a time of 6:56.570. Coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Jackie Bender, Elizabeth Campanella, Juliana DeMarici, Mallory Sykes, Amanda O'Malley, Alyssa Leahy, Asiya Mahmud and bow Colleen Delaney crossed the finish line ahead of Temple, Old Dominion, La Salle and Marist. At 2:30 p.m., the women's second varsity eight will look to capture the Coleman D. Boylan Trophy in the finals along with Dayton, Saint Joseph's, Bucknell, Duke and Buffalo.

At 8:08 a.m., the women's novice eight will race against Marist, Florida, Lehigh, Buffalo and Middlebury from lane three for the semi-finals. The top two boats will move on to the 1:50 p.m. finals.
The women's varsity four, in the Sandra Lee Sheller boat, took first place with a time 7:48.925. Buffalo finished behind the Dragons with a time of 7:52.421 along with Army, George Mason and Schenectady. The boat featured coxswains Caitlin Meehan, stroke Amanda Dargay, Elise Panacek, Jillian Skovran and bow Kathy Cheng. At 9:53 a.m., the women's varsity four will face Fairfield, Robert Morris, Old Dominion, Northwestern and Delaware from lane three. The top two finishers will have the chance to take home the Margaret McNiff Trophy at the 3:20 p.m. finals.
