Mark Manos Named CAA Defensive Player of the Year

Philadelphia, Pa. – Drexel's Mark Manos was named the 2010 Colonial Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Year in a vote of the league's six head coaches. Manos and teammates Dana Wilber and Frank Tufano were named First Team All-CAA. Seniors Colin Ambler, Zak Fisher and Matt McCormick were selected to the CAA's Second Team. Freshmen Robert Church and Nick Trizano were named to the All-Rookie team.
Manos, a sophomore from West Chester, Pa., led the CAA in all three major goaltending categories. He has a 8.29 goals against average, a .585 save percentage and averages 11.27 saves per game. Manos entered the week in the top ten nationally in both save percentage and goals against average. He was the CAA's Rookie of the Year in 2009.
Fellow sophomores Tufano and Wilber played a key role in front of Manos. Tufano, a long stick midfielder from Hauppauge, N.Y., has 15 caused turnovers and picked up 20 ground balls. He also has a goal and an assist this season. Wilber, a defenseman from Penn Yan, N.Y., also has caused 15 turnovers and led the team with 49 ground balls. Drexel's defense entered the postseason ranked fourth in the nation in both scoring defense and in man-down defense.
Ambler has 22 goals and 16 assists for the Dragons this season. He is eighth all-time on the Drexel career assist list and also ranks 11th in both career goals and career points. This is the fourth time the Abington, Pa. native has been honored by the CAA. He was a First Team All-CAA pick as a junior, a Second Team selection as a sophomore and was the CAA's Rookie of the year in 2007.
McCormick has also been a regular on the CAA's postseason awards list. He was an All-Rookie Team pick as a freshman. McCormick was named First Team All-CAA after both his sophomore and junior seasons. The West Chester, Pa. native has 12 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls. He started every game since arriving on campus as a freshman.
Fisher, who hails from Marlton, N.J., has been the Dragons' top face-off man in 2010. He has won more than 57 percent of the face-offs he has taken. Fisher has won 285 draws in his four years at Drexel and has a .582 career winning percentage.
Church, who came to Drexel from Coquitlam, British Columbia, leads the Dragons with 32 goals and 41 points. He had six points in the CAA semifinals against Delaware and had a career-high seven goals in the win against Hofstra. Trizano, from East Chester, N.Y., has had a solid freshman campaign with six goals and seven assists for 13 points.
Drexel is now 10-5 after falling to Delaware in the CAA Semifinals, 15-12. The Dragons are now waiting to hear if they will earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The selections will be made on Sunday.
