Philadelphia – Drexel University men's lacrosse coach Brian Voelker has announced the team captains for the 2011 lacrosse season. Seniors Scott Perri and Kevin Stockel will join juniors Andrew Collins and Dana Wilber as captains for next season.
Perri led the team with 19 assists as a junior and tied for the team lead with 41 points. He had four hat tricks in 2010 and scored a season-high four goals in Drexel's win against No. 9 UMass. Stockel scored 20 goals and had 30 points as a junior. He had six multiple-goal games and had at least one point in all but one game. Collins was a key member of the team's defensive midfield unit and man-down unit, which ranked in the top 10 nationally. Wilber was a First Team All-CAA selection on defense and led the team with 49 ground balls.
The Dragons also announced their team award winners from the 2010 season, a year in which Drexel was ranked as high as seventh in the country and narrowly missed out on an NCAA berth. Sophomore goalie Mark Manos was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Manos was the CAA's Defensive Player of the Year and is ranked in the top 10 in the NCAA in both goals against average and save percentage entering championship weekend. Collins, a defensive midfielder, was the Unsung Hero award winner. He played in every game and picked up 22 ground balls. The Coaches Award was given to seniors Matt McCormick and Colin Ambler. Both players were named Second Team All-CAA and were key figures in the Dragons' success the last four years. Each player was honored by the CAA in all four of their years at Drexel. Defenseman Frank Tufano was named the team's Most Improved Player. Tufano was a First Team All-CAA pick as a sophomore.
Drexel finished the season with a 10-5 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the CAA. The Dragons defeated four top 10 teams this season including No. 3 Notre Dame, who is playing on Saturday in the NCAA semifinals.
