Philadelphia - The Drexel men's basketball team hosts Towson in a CAA battle tonight at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The game begins at 7 p.m. and can be seen live on The Comcast Network.
Drexel 12-11, 7-4 CAA0 and Towson (5-16, 2-9) will be meeting for the 54th time tonight. The Dragons lead the series, 40-13. Earlier this season, Drexel won in Towson by a score of 52-49. Last season, the Dragons swept the Tigers during the regular-season series, but Towson responded by upsetting the Dragons in the CAA Tournament. In the first meeting this year, Samme Givens had his second double-double of the year and tied a career-high with 16 rebounds as Drexel defeated Towson, 52-49, at the Towson Center. The Dragons led the entire game and held off a late Tigers’ threat.
In Drexel's last outing, Shannon Givens' three-pointer at the buzzer bounced off the rim as William & Mary hung on to defeat Drexel, 54-51, at William & Mary Hall. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, but was postponed due to snow. It gave Drexel a 1-1 mark on its road trip. Earlier in the week, the Dragons knocked off first-place Northeastern in Boston. Drexel's defense held William & Mary (15-6, 7-4) to just 26 percent shooting in the contest, but the Tribe converted 28 of its 37 free throw attempts in the game. The Dragons, who had their three-game winning streak snapped, had their chances, but struggled from the line. Drexel was 9-for-22 from the stripe in the game.
In Towson's last game, Josh Thornton scored 13 points and Calvin Lee had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Tigers won at UNC Wilmington on Saturday, 58-53. The win snapped a four-game losing skid for the Tigers. Towson trailed by just one at half, but held UNCW to just 1-for-19 from deep in the second half. Junior forward Robert Nwankwo, the CAA's leading rebounder and shot blocker who sat out Towson's last two games with a shoulder injury, returned at UNCW. The big man is averaging 9.9 points and rebounds this year. Josh Thornton is one of the top long-range bombers in the CAA and leads the club with 11.9 points per game. Calvin Lee is second on the team with 11.8 points per game and chips in with six boards per game.
